The iPhone X was the first iPhone from Apple to have a huge screen that goes all the way to the edges, and it also got rid of the physical home button everyone was used to. It has a strong stainless steel frame, front and back glasses, and a simple finish that does not show fingerprints easily. At 5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 inches (143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm) and weighing 6.14 ounces (174g), the iPhone X feels thin but still nice and sturdy, and it's easy to hold and use. Available in Space Gray and Silver, it looks simple but really classy. The iconic notch holds the TrueDepth camera, so the phone doesn't have a home button anymore, and you can now use gestures or Face ID to unlock the phone.

Apple removed MagSafe accessories and decided to make the iPhone X support Qi wireless charging at a speed of 7.5W. Because there is no longer a home button, the phone now navigates using the whole screen, which is different from earlier iPhone models.
One of the main new features of the iPhone X is its 5.8-inch Super Retina HD OLED display, which brings sharper, deeper, and richer color than what was expected with its older LCDs. The display’s 458 pixel-per-inch density supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision to give the best picture-viewing experience. Even though the notch is there to support the TrueDepth camera, the older models do not have the Dynamic Island feature found in newer iPhones. The typical screen brightness is 625 nits, making it useful in many lighting conditions, even if its refresh rate is stuck at 60Hz.
Enjoying movies and TV shows is great on this phone, but its 60Hz refresh rate and missing Always-On Display leave it behind some modern alternatives. Its interface is generally easy to understand, but the notch can get in the way in a few situations.
Equipped with the A11 Bionic chip, the iPhone X performs well due to its 6-core CPU and 3-core GPU. The handset has 3GB of RAM and can be purchased with either 64GB or 256GB of storage. Thanks to the Neural Engine, devices can be identified with Face ID and feature early forms of machine learning. Offering fast multitasking and gaming out of the box, the phone can be upgraded to more recent versions of iOS from 11. The A11 makes the older A9 models run much faster, meaning apps and updates remain up-to-date for a longer time.
Test | iPhone X Score |
---|---|
Geekbench 4 (Single-Core) | 4,192 |
Geekbench 4 (Multi-Core) | 10,038 |
3DMark Slingshot Extreme | 3,131 |
Despite this, the efficient A11 Bionic chip can cause occasional software bugs when using iOS 11 being released at the time, but these bugs have reportedly been cleared up in the newer iOS builds.
There are two 12-megapixel cameras on the rear of the iPhone X. The phone comes with a wide lens and a telephoto lens, both with 2x optical zoom, OIS, and 28mm and 56mm focal lengths. It allows you to use Portrait mode with its own lighting settings. It has a 7MP TrueDepth front camera that allows for Face ID and Portrait mode selfies. It supports recording in 4K at a frame rate of 60, as well as slo-mo video in 1080p at a rate of 240. Since Night mode was brought in from later models, you won’t find it on this phone.
Camera | Specifications |
---|---|
Rear Wide | 12MP, f/1.8, 28mm, OIS |
Rear Telephoto | 12MP, f/2.4, 56mm, OIS |
Front | 7MP, f/2.2, Face ID |
Video | 4K 60fps, 1080p 240fps slo-mo |
Features | Portrait mode, Portrait Lighting |
It does a good job in bright situations, even though it’s not quite as effective in dim light as other phones. Photographers can use a telephoto lens to take close-up portraits and zoomed images.
The 2,716mAh battery of the iPhone X is good for up to 21 hours of talk time and 12 hours of using the internet. Based on real tests, you can expect your phone to work about 10-12 hours when mixed between talking, listening to music, and other activities. You can charge your phone at 15W wired and 7.5W Qi wireless speeds. While the A11 Bionic makes things run smoothly, heavy users might require a charge in the middle of their day.

iPhone X | 21 hours | ~10-12h |
iPhone 8 | 14 hours | ~8-10h |
