Design and Build

The Google Pixel 6 Pro is made up of an aluminum frame, a Gorilla Glass Victus front, and a Gorilla Glass 6 back that define the product as one of high quality. In dimensions of 6.4 x 3.0 x 0.35 inches (163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm) and a weight of 7.4 ounces (210g), this creation of Google is not only heavy but also slim. You can purchase it in Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny, and Stormy Black colors, and it comes with an under-display fingerprint sensor (the sensor has been criticized for its slow response) and no face unlock. The device with the IP68 rating swears to maintain water and dust resistance. The USB-C 3.1 port is provided with eSIM and nano-SIM support, but the design with curved edges easily causes unwanted touches.

Pixel 6 Pro Display

The Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display of 1440 x 3120 resolution (512 PPI), HDR10+, and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. With the adaptive brightness, it gets as bright as 842 nits, offering good, if not outstanding brightness, but still dimmer than the Pixel 7 Pro, which has achieved 1500 nits. Just like the display, the Gorilla Glass Victus protects the curves of the screen, and some people find it hard to get rid of the glaring light and touches. The QHD+ resolution brings a clear image for multimedia and gaming purposes.

Performance and Software

The Google Tensor chip (5nm) with an 8-core CPU, Mali-G78 MP20 GPU, and Titan M2 security chip is the driving force for the Pixel 6 Pro 12GB LPDDR5 RAM (UFS 3.1) and storage (which is 128GB for $899, 256GB for $999, and 512GB for $1099) that can't be expanded. Coming with the newest version of the OS, Android 12 (which can be updated to Android 15), that guarantees 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates until October 2026, is the virtue of the phone. In itself, it performs great in AI functions, especially Live Translate, while it is not suitable for gaming compared to the Snapdragon 888, which leads to performance fluctuating, and overheating often occurs.

Camera System

The Pixel 6 Pro offers a triple rear camera system: a 50MP main camera (f/1.85, 25mm, OIS), a 12MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2, 114° FOV), and a 48MP telephoto one (f/3.5, 4x zoom). The 11.1MP front camera (f/2.2) is missing autofocus. It's Google's computational photography that captures amazing photos, where the telephoto could be the standout for zoom. Video at 4K 60fps is good, however, iPhone 13 Pro's quality is superior. The super-wide lens performs poorly in low lighting conditions.

Battery and Charging

The Pixel 6 Pro has a huge 5003mAh battery, enough to watch a movie for 12 hours straight or last 10 to 12 hours in normal use, which is also pretty good but not the top in the class. It comes with a 23W wired charger, which charges 50% of the battery in 35 minutes, a 23W wireless charger (Qi), and even reverse wireless charging. No charger is offered with the phone. Some users experience poor battery life like 4.5 hours surfed on data and the charging speed was far lower than 25W for Galaxy S21.

Connectivity

The Pixel 6 Pro is equipped with 5G (sub-6GHz, mmWave), Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2, and UWB. There are also both nano-SIM and eSIM slots on it whereas satellite connectivity is not supported. The GPS module is compatible with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS. Some users have reception problems due to an Exynos modem, for example, they suffer from weak signals.

Pricing and Availability

The launch prices were $899 for 128GB, $999 for 256GB, and $1099 for 512GB of the Pixel 6 Pro, and those prices were valid for the first pre-orders that started on October 19, 2021 (sales on October 28, 2021, through Google Store, carriers, and retailers). It can still be bought for the same or even a reduced price thanks to various discounts, i.e., $499–$699, but in terms of support, the Pixel 7 Pro priced at $899 will be the more reasonable choice.
