The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a luxury foldable smartphone with an exquisite design that boasts a cover display of 6.3 inches and a main display of 8 inches. When the phone is folded, it is 6.11 x 3.03 x 0.48 inches (155.2 x 77.1 x 12.1 mm), and unfolded it is 6.11 x 5.91 x 0.20 inches (155.2 x 150.2 x 5.1 mm) with a weight of 9.07 ounces (257g). Besides Obsidian and Porcelain, it is also made of a stainless steel hinge, an aluminum frame, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The device is waterproof with a rating of IPX8, yet not dustproof. The phone is equipped with a fingerprint sensor on its side and has a USB-C port, which has nano-SIM and eSIM support.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold Display

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a 6.3-inch OLED cover display (2424 x 1080, 422 PPI, 60–120Hz) and an 8-inch OLED main display (2076 x 2152, 373 PPI, 1–120Hz) both of which are HDR10+ ready. They reach 2700 nits in maximum brightness and are not hard to recognize when outdoors. The glass on the two screens comes from Gorilla Glass Victus 2, providing super smooth animations while there is no Always-On Display. On the main screen, the crease is a distraction, and on the cover screen, the size fits well with the Pixel 9 Pro for moving around.

Performance and Software

The central component of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the Google Tensor G4 chip (4nm) with 8 cores, Mali-G715 GPU, and 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM which gives the phone similar power to a laptop, and lets users open many windows for AI tasks. The phone has 256GB ($1799) and 512GB ($1919) storage choices. After it gets Android 14 (upgradeable to Android 15), the user can look forward to seven years of updates, and the model comes with Gemini Advanced for one year. Talking about only a few AI features like Pixel Studio and Add Me, the Tensor G4 may be inferior to competitors such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Camera System

The rear camera of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is composed of three 48MP main (f/1.7, OIS), 10.5MP ultrawide (f/2.2), and 10.8MP telephoto (f/3.1, 5x zoom) shooters. For selfies, there is a 10MP (f/2.2) module present on both displays. It not only delivers stunning 4K 60 fps videos but it also has features like Add Me and Magic Editor that are AI-driven. The main sensor fares better than the Pixel 9a’s but the Pixel 9 Pro’s 50MP camera outperforms it in low light.

Battery and Charging

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s 4650mAh battery can be used for video play up to 16 hours and in real-world 10–12 hours at most, which is caused by the power-consuming displays. The phone supports 21W wired charging (50% in 35 minutes) and 7.5W wireless charging as well, and the company did not provide a charger. There is nothing wrong with the battery life, although it is behind the Galaxy Z Fold6, and the slow charging speed is out of step with the price.

Connectivity

Emergency SOS via satellite is included, enhancing safety. GPS supports GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, but connectivity speeds are average compared to Snapdragon-based foldables.

Pricing and Availability

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is on sale for 256GB at $1799 and at $1919 for 512GB. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold was presented on August 13, 2024, and it was made available for sale on September 4, 2024, through the Google Store, Amazon, Verizon, and AT&T. The item comes in two colors- Obsidian and Porcelain, and provides the buyer with a year of Gemini Advanced, three months of YouTube Premium, and Fitbit Premium. The fact that it is very expensive reduces the number of the potential buyers, but the possibility of getting a discount is high.
